Car rentals are available via this Web site. Driving is on the left side, British-style, along narrow, winding, hilly roads.

The resort offers 171 spacious guest suites and villas in six four-story colonial-style buildings with red-steel roofs, dormer windows, and weathered-wood balconies and staircases. Three buildings are reserved for families. Buildings don't include elevators, but guests walk up three floors at most, because two-floor villas are located on the buildings' top stories. Suites and villas with white tile floors feature full kitchens. Private, furnished patios or balconies offer ocean and harbor views. Decor includes rattan furniture, mahogany closet doors, floral drapes, louvered front doors, and ceiling fans. VCRs are available on request.

What to expect: This 30-acre beach resort attracts families with amenities such as a children's activity club and complimentary water sports. Other guests include couples seeking sunny tranquility and romantic dining, as well as yachting guests who moor their boats at the resort's 67-slip marina. The hotel features expansive Caribbean views from open-air vantage points and restaurants. Amenity highlights: Located at the base of a rocky point offering views of St. John and the British Virgin Islands beyond, the resort's large, two-level swimming pool is surrounded by a flagstone sundeck and rock walls. The 3-foot-deep upper level functions as a children's pool. The resort's beach extends 200 yards along the half-mile-long shore fronting the resort. Insider tip: Adjacent to the pool complex, a 75-yard-long grass path leads out onto a rock-lined promontory. At the end is a prime spot for spotting nearby islands and observing yacht traffic in and out of the resort's marina.

An activity club offers supervised indoor and outdoor activities for children ages 4–12 (fee). A complimentary cocktail party with hot and cold appetizers is held every Monday in the Beach Bar Pavilion. Use of non-motorized water sports equipment such as snorkeling gear, sailboats, and windsurfers is complimentary.
